❗️PLEASE SEE BELOW A PROJECT UPDATE STATEMENT ON THE RECENT FEASIBILITY STUDY TO REDEVELOP THE OLD LIDL SITE❗️

Castlegate Development on vacant Lidl site unable to progress at this time:

With support from SLC and Lanarkshire Community Led Local Development (CLLD), Clydesdale Community Initiatives (CCI) and Clydesdale Citizen Advice Bureau (CAB) have completed a feasibility study and business planning exercise on the redevelopment of the old LidL site in the Castlegate as a new CAB office, Performing Arts Centre, retail unit and flexible office spaces.

The study was undertaken by Community Enterprise and involved community consultations, stakeholder meetings and a thorough analysis of the financial viability of each element of the proposed development. The consultations were exceptionally positive with the wider community expressing significant support and potential users groups expressing a strong interest in using the site. The business planning exercise was able to show that the facility could be sustainable without a requirement for ongoing funding.

Despite this, the study concluded that the current funding environment means that it would not be currently feasible to raise the capital required to purchase and develop the site. Clydesdale CAB and CCI are therefore accepting that it is not possible to proceed with this proposal for the foreseeable future.

We and the funder would be happy to share all aspects of the study with local parties with an interest in pursuing any complementary projects within the town.

As well as volunteering in the CCI Craft Group, Lyndsey and Ryan also work together in the Langloch Farm Botanics Group.

They had a busy morning yesterday, harvesting lavender in the Langloch gardens and preparing it for drying.

Lyndsey and Ryan will use the lavender in soaps and lipbalms and also in the lavender bags and hearts that the Craft Group make.

All of these fabulous products are available in the Langloch Shop (diagonally across the Courtyard from the Tea Room) and all proceeds go directly back into supporting our charity CCI Scotland.
